Local Guidelines
Fence Rules & Permits in Anaheim, CA

A few things to consider before you install a fence in Anaheim. These are general guidelines — always confirm current requirements with the City before you start.

📏
Front Yard Height
Fences and walls in the front yard setback are generally limited to 3 feet. Decorative open wrought iron can go up to 6 feet in some single-family zones if it stays mostly open (no more than 20% solid).
🧱
Side & Rear Yard Height
Outside the front setback, fences and walls can generally go up to 8 feet.
📋
When You Need a Permit
A building permit is required for any fence or wall taller than 7 feet, in any setback area.
🚦
Corner Lots & Sight Lines
On corner lots, the street-side setback follows the same front yard height rules, and taller fences near intersections may be subject to a traffic visibility review.
Good to Know
If your home is part of an HOA, check your community's CC&Rs before installing — many HOAs add their own material and height rules on top of the City's. Building a pool or spa? California's Pool Safety Act (Health & Safety Code §115922–115923) requires at least two independent, approved drowning-prevention features, such as a 60-inch enclosure. Fence codes can change, so we always recommend confirming current requirements with the Anaheim Planning and Building Department before you start. Have questions about your property? Contact Legacy Fence and we'll help you sort it out.

My wooden fence had been rotting for years and it was finally time to replace it. From the first phone call I knew Jose and his team were the people to go with — they showed me a few options, I loved the vinyl fence, and they finished it all in under a day. It's solid, it looks nice, and it's sturdy!
