Fences and walls in the front setback are limited to 42 inches; in designated special areas (like Balboa Peninsula, Balboa Island, and Corona del Mar), open grillwork, wrought iron, or picket fencing may reach up to 5 feet.

Side and rear yard fences and walls can go up to 6 feet (8 feet in some industrial areas adjacent to residential uses).
