A few things to consider before you install a fence in Corona. These are general guidelines — always confirm current requirements with the City before you start.

Front Yard Height
Walls and fences adjacent to a street are held to 3 feet, which keeps the front of the neighborhood open. The code allows up to 60 inches using wrought iron, or a decorative block base of no more than 36 inches with wrought iron above it, as long as the whole thing tops out at 60 inches — chain link is not permitted in the front yard setback.

Along rear and interior side lot lines, a fence, wall, or hedge may reach 7 feet, and entry or vehicular gates are allowed up to 8 feet at their highest point. A street side yard may run an 84-inch fence from the front of the house back to the rear property line, using a durable decorative material.

When You Need a Permit
Corona's threshold is lower than most homeowners expect: a building permit is required for any fence taller than 3 feet, whatever the material. Retaining walls need a permit once they exceed 2 feet measured from the top of the footing, and at any height when they hold back a surcharge.

Corner Lots & Sight Lines
Corner cut-off areas keep drivers' sight lines clear, measured back from the corner 30 feet on major or secondary streets, 25 feet on collectors, 20 feet on local streets, and 10 feet at alleys and private driveways. Where a driveway opens onto a side yard, the fence must be inset at a 45-degree angle for 15 feet on each side.

California's Pool Safety Act (Health & Safety Code §115922–115923) requires at least two independent, approved drowning-prevention features, such as a 60-inch enclosure.
